Metadata Checker is a small independent website. It has one job: to show people what a file reveals about them before they share it, and to help them remove it.

Who is behind it

The site is published as an organization, not by a named expert. There is no editorial staff, no lab, and no professional review of the content. Pages are written from official documentation and published standards, which are cited on each page. If you find an error, please email info@metadatachecker.com.

How the tool works

The checker runs in your browser. It reads photos with an open-source EXIF library and its own code for JPEG, PNG and WebP structure, PDFs with the open-source pdf-lib library, and Office files by unzipping them. Cleaning is done the same way, on your device. The tool's behavior is covered by automated tests that build files with known metadata, clean them, and confirm the metadata is gone. See how we check for details and limits.

How the site is funded

It isn't, yet. There are no ads and no affiliate links. If that changes, this page and each affected page will say so clearly.
